My Parents Split Up
A Card Game About Parental Separation and Divorce
by Max Nass, LMHC and Marcia Nass, M.S.
This easy-to-play card game deals with the emotions, anxieties, and concerns of children going through parental separation or divorce. It focuses on many of the problems these children are likely to encounter, allowing them to discuss their feelings in a safe, supportive context. Among the issues addressed are blame, anger, sadness, fear of abandonment, and hope for parental reconciliation.
The playing procedure—similar to that of the popular card game War—is diverting enough to help players relax but simple enough to let them focus on the 52 questions posed on the cards. These questions stimulate discussion, offering opportunities to reassure children that they are still loved and cared for even though their parents are splitting up. For 2 to 4 players.

I am a Marriage and Family Therapist who works with children of different ages, many who have divorced parents or are in the process of divorce. This game has been extremely helpful in facilitating discussions, as well as helping children express their thoughts and feelings regarding divorce and separation. I have found that the six and seven year old children, at times, have had difficulty reading and understanding some of the cards, but I have been able to easily explain the cards to them when they don't. I would highly recommend this game to any professional working with children of divorced or separated parents.

This is a great product. I am a guidance counselor and have used this game with my 3rd-4th grade divorce group. the cards are easy to read and the questions very relevant. I would definitely recommend this if working with children in split homes.
