developed by Bert Smets and the Center for Experiential Education
Four endearing little animals—Hopla the rabbit, Lola the cat, Onki the pig, and Nina the bear—introduce young children to four feelings: happy, sad, angry, and afraid. By thoroughly exploring these basic feelings, the Hopla Box prepares little ones for the more complex emotions they will experience as they grow. Through hands-on play, youngsters learn to recognize and express feelings (without getting upset), empathize with others, and read emotions through body language.
The Hopla Box includes:
• 16 Situation Pictures
• 12 Hardcover Storybooks
• 4 Feelings Boxes
• 4 Posters
• 16 Cardboard Cutout Characters (double-sided with plastic feet for standing)
• 4 Masks
• A Feelings Wheel
• 40 Dominoes
• Instructions for 27 group activities
• Reproducible Activity Sheets
• Sturdy storage box with handle
The plastic stands that hold up the Cardboard Cutout Characters constitute a choking hazard for children under 3 years of age. However, the Hopla Box is an excellent resource for supervised use with children as young as 2 because its nonverbal components are easy to understand.
Use these beautifully produced materials to provide young children with an early understanding of feelings—and a lot of fun at the same time.
