A Board Game Teaching Healthy Expression of Anger
by Katelyn Mariah, BFA, MA, LICSW
Angry Aardvark, Cranky Crab, Furious Frog, Mad Meerkat, Peeved Pig, and Raging Racoon teach children how to respond to anger in healthy ways. As they move from the Anger Volcano to Tranquility Beach—with occasional visits to the Time-Out Tent—kids answer game card questions about behavior, responsibility, sibling rivalry, conflict, and relationships. Along the way, they learn that anger is a natural feeling, neither good nor bad. It’s the way one expresses anger that matters.
This game encourages youngsters to think about what makes them angry, explore their options in responding to anger, and communicate effectively with peers and adults. Especially useful with younger children, the game can be played by 2 to 6 players or teams, with a teacher, counselor, or therapist.

This game has been fun and great for the therapeutic setting. My Client's enjoy the animals they get to play with and answer the questions to get to the end and win the game.

Good scenerios, good range of choices, kids love it, it leads easily into discussion, (has this ever happened to you, is that what you'd really do). The questions are easily answered by almost everyone, though it's still fun and therapeutic and you can choose issues that are most useful for the particular child. I wish it would vary the amount of spaces to move forward (instead of 2 spaces each time) to make it a little more interesting. The animals are cute though I wish the actual game pieces were a little sturdier.
